The most homoerotic moment in a fight could be the ’stare down.’ This is the moment just before the fight when the two fighters meet in the middle of the ring to get instructions from the ref. They often take this opportunity to try and get an edge on the other fighter by locking eyes and not looking away. Mike Tyson said in the Tyson documentary that this was moment when he ‘won the fight.’ He thought that if the other guy looked away first, it was a sign of weakness and that fear was now in the other fighter’s heart and the fight was all but over.
When you watch a ’stare down’ you sometimes think “why don’t these two just make out and get it over with already?” That is just what this fighter from the Japanese Pride league thought, so during the stare down he leaned in and gave a kiss to his opponent. He may have been trying to express his dominance but he got quickly one-punched for his efforts.
