I was having a casual dinner with my wife at Chipotle like married couples often do and since the tables are so crammed together, we could not help but over hear the conversation from the table behind us. It was six or seven hispanic teen to early 20’s women talking about everyday bullshit, but one of the girls said something that caught my attention. She said “I’m not a feminist but sometimes I feel like one when I am on my period.”
Having been raised by an actual feminist, I couldn’t figure out how this became a bad word. After asking myself that question, I started to see the answer everywhere. Everywhere on conservative news outlets, that is. Here is an example I grabbed from the Hannity show on Sunday night. It is of conservative author S.E. Cupp (whose name, incidentally, comes up above S.E. Hinton when you type the letters “S.E.” into Google) explaining why she is mad at Tiger Woods for “making her sound like a feminist”
She even adds “but seriously” after saying it as if it were a joke.. ‘ha ha. me? a feminist? zing! got you!’ Here is some breaking news lady; a feminist is a good thing and you don’t even have to hate someone for making you feel that way. Also, when you are eating at a Chipotle, please try and keep your discussions about the female cycle to a minimum because I am not that much of a feminist that talk like that won’t keep my basket burrito down.
i fucking love Chipotle, so i can totaly relate with this story! Go Corn Salsa!
What can we say? America has shortened “Feminist” to “bitch” due to lack of intelligence, and the fact that it has less syllables. That and the only feminism most public schools like to preach is that of the Seneca Falls suffrage movement, but what the hell, right?
