Sterling Sliver Tongue

John Sterling is the local radio announcer for the New York Yankees and I am fed up with his little pet names for specific player’s home run calls like when Alex Rodriugez hits one he says in a most annoying way “ahhh- an A-Bomb, for A-Rod” or when the Japanese player Matsui hits a home run he says “It’s a thrilla from Godzilla.” In this audio he conflates the two to hilarious results….

Maybe he doesn’t remember August 9, 1945, but I bet Matsui does.

These aren’t even Sterling’s greatest transgressions. That list would include:
Melkey Cabrera: The Melkman Delivers
Mark Teixeira: It’s a Tex Message
Johnny Damon: It’s a Johnny Rocket (which must be some other reference from 1945 that I don’t even get)
Or the ever cringy call for Jorge Posada: Jorgy Juiced One!

But his greatest insult to the legacy of baseball is his ‘Sterling Shake.’ When ever the Yankees win a game, it could be a walk off HR or a 12-0 blowout of the Royals, he always ends it with “the Yankees win. The-ah Yankees WIN!” Video has surfaced of this chilling call and it shows the way he must convulse his body to create this awful sound.
